THE DESIGN PROCESS – HOW DOES IT WORK?

To design a custom cantilevered staircase, we will require you to submit some basic dimensions along with your enquiry to help smoothen out the design process.

• Floor to Floor dimension – the distance between finished surfaces on the levels the staircase is going to connect
• Staircase Width – the distance from the finished interior wall to the balustrade
• Reinforced Wall Detail – thickness of the wall and ideally rebar locations to avoid a clash with the fixings
• Interior Wall Detail – type of interior wall finish, and the clearance between structural wall and interior finish

These are shown in the drawing below, and explained in our design tutorial.

PROJECT DELIVERABLES – WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Below is a list of expected deliverables as standard:

 

1. CONCEPT DESIGN

1.1 GA drawings to communicate design intent – as per dimensions provided

1.2 Revision of design as per feedback from design team, client, architect, contractors etc

 

2. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

2.1 Integration of agreed staircase design into site conditions

2.2 Finalise all elements of the design

2.3 Detail for all key junctions

2.4 Detailed drawing package for final revision including

• Drawings for steelwork quotation purposes
• Drawings for stair timber cladding quotation purposes
• Drawings for glass balustrade quotation purposes

 

3. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

 

4. TECHNICAL DESIGN

4.1 Fabrication detail

4.2 Fully detailed fabrication drawing package for manufacture (steel frame assembly)

4.2 Digital files laser cutting (DXFs + STEP) for all steel components

 

DESIGN PROCESS – HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The design process is divided into three phases:

 

Phase 1 – Initial design concept

Phase 2 – Revised detailed design

Phase 3 – Final drawings for manufacture

 

Each phase will take approximately 3-5 working days to finalise.

Revision of design is carried out after phase 1 and phase 2, meaning two revisions are included as standard.

Any further revisions will be chargeable at £50 GBP per revision.
